Showers on the coast are expected in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal residents woke up to cloudy skies and the possibility of rain, especially along the coast. Durban and Richards Bay face a 30% chance of showers, with maximum temperatures settling around 20°C.

Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi explained the conditions: “The onshore flow is bringing moisture from the ocean into the province, causing a 30% chance of showers in coastal areas.”

Although light rainfall is a welcome relief after a series of dry weeks.

Cool inland conditions

Inland areas will experience significantly cooler weather. Pietermaritzburg will record a maximum of 17°C, while surrounding towns remain in the lower temperature range. The cooler air is linked to moisture from the Ocean and cloudy skies, which limit sunshine.

Rasimphi added: “Temperatures remain cool as you move inland, with Pietermaritzburg peaking at 17°C today.”

Mixed weather outlook

While the coast will receive rain and the inland stayed cool, parts of northern KwaZulu-Natal leaned towards warmer conditions. Still, compared to Gauteng and Limpopo, the province remained cooler overall.

Residents are advised to dress warmly, especially in inland towns, and to plan for wet conditions in coastal areas. Light rainfall may continue through the evening before clearing overnight.
