On 18 June 2025, the Minister of the Department of Social Development, Sisisi Tolashe, appeared before the Portfolio Committee. She gave an update on her department’s spending in 2025, as well as pending projects that require a cash injection.
First on Tolashe’s list were the victims of the Eastern Cape floods, which killed more than 90 people and washed away many homes.
“Following the events, the social development sector with its partners dispatched its personnel to assist the affected people,” said Tolashe.

She said they have deployed an internal audit committee, to account for every cent being spent during this time.
