Siya Kolisi will now only reach 100-cap milestone next year

Siya Kolisi missed the first part of the 2025 season due to an injury, but he recovered to feature against Georgia and in this past weekend’s Test against Australia, taking his total of Test caps to 94.

Kolisi unfortunately suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s clash against Ellis Park, though, and he may only return in time to feature in the final two Tests of the Rugby Championship.

The Springboks are expected to finish the year with five Tests, but it’s highly unlikely that Kolisi would feature against Japan (this fixture is also still to be confirmed), nor against Wales.

As it is, Rassie Erasmus generally attempts to ensure that special occasions such as a 100-cap milestone can be celebrated by the player in question during a Test on home soil.

So this iconic moment will almost certainly now be deferred to next year, but Kolisi does look to be next in line to reach the centurion club for the Springboks, while Damian de Allende (89 caps) and Pieter-Steph du Toit (89) are not far behind.

According to SARugbymag.co.za, the Springboks are set to face Japan in Brighton on 1 November in what will effectively serve as a ‘warm-up’ to the end-of-year tour.
