South African stewardess brutally killed on luxury yacht off billionaires’ island

A young South African woman working aboard a luxury yacht has been found murdered, sending shockwaves through the international yachting community and the exclusive enclave of Harbour Island.

Paige Bell, 20, was discovered dead in the engine room of the 142-foot charter yacht Far From It last Thursday.

The vessel had been docked off Harbour Island, a known retreat for billionaires and celebrities.

Arrested a crew member

Authorities have arrested Brigido Munoz, a 39-year-old Mexican mechanic and fellow crew member, in connection with the murder.

He was found at the scene with self-inflicted injuries and a knife in hand, lying beside Bell’s body.

According to police, Bell was reported missing after failing to appear for her shift.

A search of the vessel led to the grim discovery in the lower deck.

Investigators say she showed signs of a violent struggle, with multiple stab wounds and evidence suggesting a possible sexual assault.

Munoz was taken to hospital under police guard and has since been charged with murder.

He appeared in a New Providence magistrates’ court and was denied bail.

His next court date is set for November 20.

Bell, from Johannesburg, had been working as a guest relations officer aboard the $19.8 million yacht, which can cost up to $250 000 per week to charter.

The crew had reportedly been preparing a celebration for her upcoming 21st birthday.

Her family, now in the Bahamas to repatriate her body, released a statement describing Paige as a “golden girl” with a bright future and a warm spirit.

‘Heartbreak’

They expressed heartbreak over the tragedy and the added challenge of dealing with legal processes abroad.

“We are devastated beyond words,” the statement read.

“Our family is facing an unimaginable journey, seeking justice for the monster that took her life.”

The shocking incident has rattled the serene island, a 5km-long paradise frequented by the global elite.

Residents and crew members on surrounding vessels expressed disbelief that such a crime could occur in what is considered one of the safest, most exclusive yachting destinations in the world.

The investigation remains active as police continue to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and determine a clear motive.
