The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a nationwide recall of Benny Beef and Chicken Flavoured Stock Cubes, following concerns over incorrect sodium labelling that may pose a health risk to consumers.
In a statement, the NCC confirmed that Tiger Brands, the manufacturer, has voluntarily recalled all pack sizes of the affected products due to higher-than-declared salt content.
“The National Consumer Commission hereby notifies consumers of the recall of all Benny Beef and Chicken Flavoured Stock Cubes, as notified by Tiger Brands,” the commission said.
What’s Being Recalled?
The recall covers all sizes of Benny Beef and Chicken Flavoured Stock Cubes:
- 12-cube packs
- 24-cube packs
- 48-cube packs
These products have been available on the market since 2023, with best-before dates up to 31 July 2027.
What’s the Issue?
According to Tiger Brands, routine quality control revealed that the actual sodium (salt) content in the cubes may be higher than what is printed on the packaging.
This could mislead consumers, particularly those managing conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, or other health issues related to sodium intake.
What Should You Do if You Bought These Products?
- Stop using the product immediately
- Return the product to the store where you bought it – no proof of purchase required
- You’ll receive a full refund or a coupon as compensation
Tiger Brands’ Response
Tiger Brands has confirmed it is working closely with retailers and wholesalers to remove all affected batches from store shelves.
The company is also cooperating with the NCC to ensure public safety and transparent communication throughout the recall process.
