SPRINGBOK PLAYERS SHOW DRICUS LOVE

On Monday, 25 August  – over a week after losing his UFC World Champion title to Khamzat Chimaev – Dricus du Plessis broke his silence on Instagram.

In it, Dricus revealed he had “embraced the loss” of his title.

“I have absolutely no excuses for my performance, I was beaten by a better fighter on the night”, he posted, congratulating Chimaev.

However, the 31-year-old stated that he would make a comeback and win back his belt.

Thanking his supporters, he added: “This loss has exploded a desire in me that will have the consequence of an onslaught bigger than the original domination- my return to glory and pursuit of greatness will be unimaginable for the average-minded”.

As a strong Springbok supporter – who proudly celebrated when the national team won the 2023 World Cup in France – many rugby players returned their love and appreciation to Dricus.

His IG post was liked by Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, as well as players Damian Willemse, Cheslin Kolbe, RG Snyman, and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, liked his IG post.

IS THIS HIS NEXT OPPONENT?

Meanwhile, Brazilian MMA fighter Paulo Costa is hoping to fight Dricus du Plessis before the end of 2025.

In an interview with Submission Radio, the 34-year-old critiqued the fighting style of Khamzat Chimaev, who beat the South African for the Middleweight World Champion title.

He said of his potential opponent: “Dricus is better because he is fresh from the belt. He’s so unpredictable. He’s a tough guy to fight, to be honest. Khamzat Chimaev knew that – that’s why he held him for so long.

“Even in the fifth round, Dricus was still dangerous, and Chimaev was afraid to fight him. He just held the guy for 25 minutes. Horrible.”

Costa hopes to fight Dricus as soon as November, promising a “great fight.”

Dricus has yet to respond.
