Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has called for Sekhukhune United striker Bradley Grobler to get a Bafana Bafana call-up.
The 37-year-old forward has been spectacular for his new team, scoring four times in six games for Babina Noko this season. Against Amakhosi, Grobler scored a brace to hand the Soweto giants their first defeat of the season.
Speaking on iDiski TV, Khanye felt Grobler should have been in the Bafana Bafana squad during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
“I was going to take him to Afcon with the experience that he has. I was going to take Grobler to the Afcon, and use his experience. If Ronaldo is 39 [40] and still plays [for Portugal] and Messi, you go with this guy [Grobler]. He was going to punish opponents.
Khanye urges Hugo Broos to call Bradley Grobler to Bafana
The former Chiefs star says Grobler’s experience in the national team could come in handy in this year’s Afcon.
“Afcon [2025], you must take this guy, and he will reward the coach [Hugo Broos]. Young players can learn from Grobler.
“Look at his positioning, especially goal number two. Nobody thought this guy would turn out of the blue; he finished with a weaker foot,” Khanye said after Sekhukhune’s win over Chiefs.
It remains to be seen if Grobler will get a call-up ahead of Bafana Bafana’s final World Cup qualifiers. The Sekhukhune has not played for the national team in nearly five years, and at the age of 37, it seems unlikely that he will get a call-up.
Fans are asking for Broos to consider Grobler for Bafana
Following his brace against Kaizer Chiefs, some supporters have called for Hugo Broos to select ‘Sniper’ in his squad. Despite Lyle Foster, Bafana don’t have a regular goal-scoring forward.
