The 1% Club’s Lee Mack ‘wasn’t expecting that’ as players miss out on jackpot for final question – did you know it?

COMEDIAN Lee Mack was left surprised after two clever contestants missed out on a share of £100,000 on The 1% Club.

The brainy quizmasters had played a solid game, making it all the way to the final round, where they had a difficult decision to make.

He couldn’t believe what they wanted to do next

Anyone who’s familiar with the ITV gameshow knows players can either play the last round or walk away with a smaller cash prize.

They can decide between cutting their losses and taking a share of £10,000, or continuing playing for the giant £100k jackpot.

Kyle and Sarah had made it to the final round in a recently aired episode, with Sarah sharing dreams of going to Disneyland.

If both players chose to play on, they’d both be in the running for six figures. Even if they both won, they’d still scoop £50,000.

But, with the risk of walking away empty-handed, it’s certainly a tough decision.

With the pair’s successful run to the final, it’s no surprise that Lee was expecting the two to play on – but he was left feeling confused.

Suspense filled the studio on this particular episode as the funnyman waited to find out what Sarah and Kyle wanted to do.

“Okay, both of your lights are off which means that you’re both taking your share of £10,000. Okay, I wasn’t expecting that,” he said.

“I’m not going to lie, I thought that Kyle was going to risk it, I thought that Sarah was going to go to Disney with her money, but you were going to risk it. Why didn’t you?”

“I’m not a big risker,” the player replied as Lee quipped, “You’re not a big risker? Would you have thought differently if you’d still had the grand?”

“You may have risked it then? You don’t want to go home with nothing?”

He’s expected Sarah to take her £5k to get to Disneyland as she told the host, “I just sort of guessed the last question so I didn’t want to push my luck.”

Praising the players, Lee said: “You’ve done very, very well. Obviously it would be ridiculously irritating for me to now show you the question and you know you would have got it, so. Of course we’ll show it.”

The final 1% Club question was ‘Why is FOQZ the odd one out in these sets of letters?’. The answers available were ‘BCDEGPTV’, ‘AJK’, ‘FOQZ’ and ‘IY’.

Kyle decided not to take a risk

“Just out of interest, would you have got it in 30 seconds? I’m slightly hoping you wouldn’t. Feel free to say if you think you’ve got it,” Lee said.

“No idea,” Kyle told the presenter. While Sarah said: “I feel better for taking [the money].”

To Lee’s surprise, someone in the audience – the pool of 1% Club players – put their hand up to answer the questions.

“Hi Lee, so BCDEGPTV all rhyme, AJK rhyme, IY rhyme, FOQZ are all different,” he said.

Confirming the correct £100,000 prize winning answer, Lee explained: “Let’s have a look, that’s the right answer. The other sets of letters rhyme with each other.

“F, O, Q and Z do not rhyme. Well done, and well done to you two for taking the money. You still take home a share of £10,000.”
