WHEN it comes to the UK, there are plenty of beautiful beaches, but now all of them can double as California.
Yet a new movie with two massive British actors has since been seen filming there – pretending to be the US state.

In the new film called The Roses, – featuring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch – Brits are led to believe that the characters are on the incredible landscape on the western US state.
Instead, the cast and crew filmed it all in the resort town of Salcombe.
The town’s ports and waterfront feature in the film like Salcombe North Sands Beach.
Overlooking the bay is one of Devon’s foodie hotspots that also featured in the film called The Winking Prawn.
It’s where Ivy Rose, played by Olivia Colman, had her restaurant which was renamed ‘We’ve Got Crabs’ for the film.
In reality, it’s a shack-style seafood café with a buzzing atmosphere and outdoor seating looking over the waves, and it’s been open since 1997.
One visitor called it “the highlight of Salcombe” and reviews suggest it has lots of returning guests.
The daytime menu includes prawn salads, crab sandwiches, grilled mackerel, lobster – and plenty of non-fish dishes too.
As for the Salcombe North Sands Beach, it’s a long stretch of sand, especially at low tide, and there are plenty of rockpools too.
It’s a short walk from the town centre and ruins of Fort Charles.

South Sands Beach on the other hand is a smaller, more sheltered Blue Flag award-winning beach at the mouth of the estuary.
It’s a popular spot for water-sports too with kayaking and paddle-boarding.
Another place is Sunny Cove which stays true to its name in the summer, and can get very hot.
The secluded inlet catches direct sunshine all-day long, giving it a “sunny aspect” and keeping it sheltered from wind.
Another Devon spot that looks like it belongs in another country is Blackpool Sands.
It even has a new dining venue overlooks the beautiful beach and has an interior design similar to bars found in the Mediterranean.
Literally called Blackpool Sands Café, Lounge and Restaurant, the furniture includes all-natural materials, such as wood and stone, and has floor-to-ceiling glass doors.
Some of the dishes include seafood like classic fish and chips or Dartmouth crab – and in typical Devonshire style, creams teas are available all day.
Plus, the ‘wonderfully unspoilt’ seaside town in Devon is one of the UK’s best hidden spots.
