FORGET your standard burger and chips – the country with the best McDonald’s in the world has some very unusual menu items.
When it comes to trying McDonald’s abroad, there are some great options to try – for example, a beer in the Spanish McDonald’s.

But Japan is often named one of the best country’s to try McDonald’s thanks to both the high quality and ever rotating menu.
The country has the third most McDonald’s in the world, behind the US and China, with nearly 3,000 branches.
One self-professed McDonald’s connoisseur told Delish it was the “world’s best place’ for McDonald’s
He explained: “I have one non-negotiable stop on every international trip I take: McDonald’s.
“Japanese McDonald’s is the best, hands down – they’ve done what the best international McDonald’s do: made the American chain their own.”
His stand out items included the Shaka-Chiki – a crispy chicken cutlet with seasonings you can shake on, as well as the matcha mochi pie.
He also added: “Japanese McDonald’s is also way more affordable.
“I know I’m not alone in racking up a nearly $20 McDonald’s order in the U.S., but in Japan it was more like $7 for the same amount food, if not more.”
The current menu has a number of items that you won’t find in the UK.
There is the popular Ebi Fry burger, which is made from Japanese fried shrimp.
Or there are teriakyi burgers and the Samurai Mac, with soy sauce and beef patties.
Some of the popular drinks are ones you wouldn’t see in the UK either, with a McFloat Grape or McFloat Melon, which are flavoured juices topped with ice cream.
New items have already recently been added, according to local Japanese media.
This includes heart-shaped shrimp nuggets, although you will have to hunt them down – not all boxes include them.
Limited time desserts include Sankaku Choco Pies in chocolate and almonds, or strawberry milk.
Make sure to visit in spring too, where you can expect cherry blossom themed drinks and snacks.
The Happy Meal toys and themes change often too, with previous ones being Hello Kitty, Pokemon – the current ones are Sanrio characters My Melody and Kuromi.

People on Reddit agreed too, with travellers raving about it in the McDonald’s forums.
One wrote: “McDonald’s in Japan is on another level especially compared to the American ones.
“By far the best quarter pounder with cheese I’ve ever had at any McDonald’s was in Japan, back when they still had it on the menu.
And a Japanese-style drink could soon be coming to the UK.
