Three children burnt beyond recognition in Limpopo house fire

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has instructed police to investigate the possibility of charging the parents or guardians of three children who died in a house fire.

The three children, aged between two and four, died after a fire broke out at Itsani village on Friday, 29 August.

POLICE TO PROBE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE THAT KILLED THREE CHILDREN

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said police on duty received a report about a house on fire with children trapped inside

The police urgently proceeded to the scene, where firefighters were already battling the blaze.

“Once the fire was extinguished, the bodies of the three children were discovered, burned beyond recognition.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the children had been playing near a one-room house, but it remains unclear how they ended up inside. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown,” Ledwaba explained.

COMMISSIONER WANTS GUARDIANS CHARGED

Meanwhile, the police commissioner in Limpopo has directed that forensic and fire experts be brought in to assist with the investigation.

Hadebe has also instructed police to investigate the possibility of charging the parents or guardians with negligence or failure to protect minors.
