FANS of fresh coffee can put leftover grounds to good use.

Not only can they boost your beauty regime, they are handy around the house and great for the garden.

Next time you brew yourself a cup, think of these other free coffee perks.

BREWTIFUL: Instead of throwing away coffee grounds, throw them into your beauty routine — they make a great exfoliator.

Add used grounds to your favourite natural oil — coconut works well — and rub over your body.

Sophie Trueman, from food waste campaign and app Too Good To Go, suggests adding double cream and honey for a touch of luxe.

For a brightening face mask, mix a tablespoon of grounds, a tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of natural yoghurt.

To get rid of dry patches on your feet, mix the grounds with sugar and olive oil and apply to rough areas before rinsing.

BEANS BONUS: There are lots of ways that used grounds can come in handy around the house.

Keep a small cup of them near your sink and rub them over your hands after chopping garlic or onions to get rid of the smell.

If a wooden table or sideboard has a scratch, Too Good To Go suggests mixing some grounds with olive oil, then applying the mixture to the mark with a cotton bud.

You can put some dried grounds in a small bag or sock and place them inside whiffy shoes to zap the odour.

Place them in a small bowl in the fridge and they’ll soak up any smells there, too.

GROUNDS WORK: Don’t forget your garden when it comes to beans benefits.

Sophie says: “Coffee grounds are rich in phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and copper, and as they degrade, they release nitrogen. It makes for a very rich compost.”

Mix them into your soil to give it a boost.

You can also scatter used grounds around plants to deter any ants, slugs, and snails. The coffee may even discourage cats from using your garden beds as a litter tray.
