Tottenham vs Wolves preview
Wolves arrive in north London hoping their status as Tottenham’s undisputed ‘bogey team’ can help them clinch their first points of the season.
Vitor Pereira’s side have remarkably won four of their last five meetings against Spurs and have lost just two of their last eight Premier League visits to Tottenham.
That statistic makes for encouraging reading for the visitors – unlike the league table.
Wolves are still pointless after their opening five league matches and risk joining just three other sides in Premier League history to have lost their first six games of a campaign.
A good start would be crucial for the division’s 20th-placed side, who have trailed at half-time in each of their last nine Premier League matches.
There is, however, some cause for optimism. Wolves picked up a morale-boosting Carabao Cup win over Everton in midweek, and their two away defeats in the league this season – against Bournemouth and Newcastle – both came by narrow 1-0 margins.
As for Tottenham, they’ll be hoping for more of the same from a side that currently sit third in the table.
Spurs have taken 10 points from their five Premier League games under Thomas Frank so far – double the total they earned from their final 12 matches under Ange Postecoglou.
That said, there’s still room for improvement. Frank’s side have scored 10 goals from an expected goals tally of just 6.1 – with only Liverpool having overperformed their xG more this season.
Should the goals dry up, though, Spurs can lean on a solid defence. They’ve kept five clean sheets in their opening seven games in all competitions.

A flurry of goals seems unlikely in Saturday night’s contest.
Wolves have conceded just two goals on the road this season – and those came against free-scoring Newcastle and Bournemouth, despite facing a combined xG of only 0.97, the lowest of any side in the Premier League.
