A major crash involving a truck has caused heavy traffic delays on the N3 highway, Durban-bound, near Pavilion Shopping Mall.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma said the accident happened between 6am and 7am on Sunday.
Duma said the department deployed the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) and Durban Metro Police to the scene to manage traffic flow.
MOVING CARGO FROM ROAD TO RAIL
“Our highly efficient team from Road Traffic Inspectorate working with Durban Metro Police is managing the traffic flow. Importantly, we are working with the National Minister of Transport Barbra Creecy to fast-track the transition of cargo from road to rail,” Duma said in a statement.
ALS Paramedics who responded to the scene said the truck was carrying brand-new vehicles.
Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the crash caused a chain reaction with four cars behind the truck.
The truck driver sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene.
The drivers of the other vehicles were also injured and were transported to nearby hospitals after receiving treatment on scene.
“This Truck Crash caused absolute mayhem on the freeway whilst clean up operations took place,” said Jamieson in a statement.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the SAPS.
