Tshwane announces a power outage to affect 11 areas this week

The City of Tshwane has announced that scheduled audits and efficiency tests on Wilmer and K1 substations will lead to power outages in several northern areas between 17 and 19 June. The Energy and Electricity Department said the work is necessary to assess and improve the performance of these critical substations.

“This exercise compels the municipality to shut down the power supply to both affected substations,” the city explained.

The power outages are scheduled to occur between 9:00 and 13:00 on each of the three days. The audits are aimed at enhancing electricity supply management, particularly during peak demand times.

Affected areas by the power outage and timing

Power to the Wolmer Substation will be switched off on Tuesday, 17 June and Wednesday, 18 June. The affected suburbs by the power outage include Wolmer, Ninapark, Theresapark, Eldorette, Clarina, Winternest, Hesteapark, Klerksoord, Heatherdale, parts of Dorandia, and the BVN 45 line.

On Thursday, 19 June, some customers supplied by the K1 Substation will also experience a four-hour power outage during the same time window.

Efforts to improve power stability

According to the municipality, the temporary power outage is part of its commitment to improving electricity delivery across Tshwane.

“These tests and audits will assist the municipality in identifying areas of improvements in order to enhance electricity supply management,” it said.

Residents are urged to treat all electrical outlets as live during the interruption and to take necessary precautions to protect appliances and devices. The city apologised for the inconvenience but emphasised that the short-term impact will yield long-term benefits for the stability of the power supply.
