RETIREMENT flat residents have been warned about smoking cannabis.
They were told in a management letter that all communal areas were smoke-free.
Residents were informed that action would be taken if any illegal substances were found in the building.
Homemanor House in Watford has 90 residents, who are all over 60.
Artist Ian Fleming, 67, who lives there, said: “It’s the funniest thing I’ve read.
“It’s a retirement block for heaven’s sake.
“A lot of us are vulnerable and frail.
“There were some rumours before about how some people could ‘smell’ cannabis, but I never did.”
The letter also stressed that e-cigarettes and vaping devices were banned from communal spaces.
Management company Kingsdale said: “Smoking of any illegal substances would be classed as a police matter.”
A record number of pensioners were treated for drug and alcohol abuse, figures show.
Some 8,218 were referred to rehab schemes — 1,600 of them hooked on opiates such as heroin and morphine.
Another 459 needed treatment for cannabis addiction and 59 crack cocaine.
