VW blows the doors off with EPIC 50 Years of Polo video

Volkswagen has put together a 50 Years of Polo video. And it’s absolutely sensational. Celebrating the past, present and future of South Africa’s favourite hatchback, the 50 Years of Polo: Project Drift video dropped this past weekend. And it’s going viral all over the world. VrrrrPah ….

As such, the 50 Years of Polo video was shot in and around Nelson Mandela Bay. Including, at the home of the VW Polo itself, Volkwagen Plant Kariega (formerly Uitenhage) and the Transnet Port Terminal (TPT) in Gqeberha. The former has been home to VW Polo construction since 1996. And the latter is key to exporting the locally built Polo to Europe and the Asia-Pacific regions.

50 YEARS OF POLO

Anoraks and motorsport junkies alike will love the 50 Years of Polo: Project Drift video. Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson – seven-time FIA World Rallycross Champion – takes us on a high-speed tour of the Volkswagen Kariega plant, showing off various road and race Polo models in the process. These include the Polo R WRC, Polo R Supercar (in iconic Harlequin livery) and the electric Polo RX1e.

Plus, the 50 Years of Polo video features a surprise guest appearance by the ID. Polo. This is a near-production concept EV that will be the newest member of the Polo family, making its public debut at IAA Mobility in Munich very soon.

LOOKING BACK AND FORWARD

“We not only wanted to look back but forward, too, and capture the enthusiasm for the Polo brand. This video stands for everything that is quintessentially Polo. A small car that can do great things and is geared for the future,” says Jens Katemann, Head of Communications for the Volkswagen Brand.

Johan Kristoffersson explains what a great thrill the driving scenes were. “The shoot was a huge pleasure for me. It was a great experience to drive all the super-sporty Polo models one after the other and really push them to their limits. As such, their characters are very different, but they all performed equally well,” explains Kristoffersson.

“We are proud to be such a big part of the Polo success story. And the 50 Years of Polo video is a great source of excitement for the employees who build these cars every day. A special thanks to everyone who made this project possible,” concludes Andile Dlamini, Head of Group Communications at Volkswagen Group Africa.
