Warm conditions expected across Gauteng

Gauteng residents can expect warm conditions throughout the day, with temperatures climbing to the high 20s and low 30s in several parts of the province. Pretoria is forecast to peak at 31°C, while Johannesburg is expected to reach 29°C.

Lehlohonolo Thobela, a forecaster, advised residents to take necessary precautions as heat and wind combine to create hazardous conditions.

“High fire danger warnings are in place for Gauteng, especially in the central and northeastern areas. Dry conditions and strong winds could easily worsen the situation,” Thobela said.

Fire safety remains a priority amidst warm conditions

The South African Weather Service has urged communities to remain vigilant and report fires quickly. High fire danger conditions are expected in Gauteng’s northeastern and central parts, stretching into Limpopo.

“Residents must act responsibly and avoid lighting unnecessary fires. If you notice any suspicious or uncontrolled burning, report it immediately to the relevant authorities,” Thobela added.

The province’s high fire risk is made worse by persistent dry weather and gusty winds, which forecasters expect to continue throughout the day.

Northern Areas to Experience Higher Heat

In Gauteng’s northern regions, temperatures are expected to rise further, making conditions hot and uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, the southernmost parts of Gauteng are expected to be cooler, with Vereeniging and other nearby towns reaching about 23°C.

With heat, wind, and fire risks combined, residents are urged to stay alert, hydrated, and cautious throughout the day.
