WATCH: Chaos at OR Tambo as flights cancelled over pilots’ strike

FlySafair has confirmed that some of its flights have been cancelled due to the intensifying strike action.

Videos circulating on social media show passengers stranded with their luggage at OR Tambo International Airport, as confusion mounts over flight disruptions.

The strike action, linked to disputes over wages and the airline’s internal planning and scheduling system, is expected to last for two weeks.

FlySafair CONFIRMS SOME OPERATIONS CONTINUE

In a statement, FlySafair said that while some flights have been cancelled, many continue to operate as scheduled. Some of the cancelled flights were assigned to pilots who had confirmed their availability. However, later informed the airline that they would no longer be flying.

“All other flights are operating as planned, and affected customers have been contacted directly using details provided at the time of booking. Should there be further disruptions, customers will be notified promptly,” said FlySafair.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE AFFECTED BY THE STRIKE?

FlySafair said that if customers were affected by the strike, they could rebook a flight or cancel and receive a refund voucher. The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused by the strike.

If you choose to rebook, you may select another flight on the same route or opt for a new flight on a future date.

Alternatively, you can cancel your booking and receive a voucher equivalent to the full value of your original flight. It will be valid for 12 months. Customers may also request a full cash refund if preferred.
