WATCH: Percy Tau: I grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs but…

Kaizer Chiefs have previously been linked with Percy Tau and they could now sign him for free this window.

Chiefs have been touted as long-term admirers of Tau but question marks remain over finally signing him.

Tau a free agent after leaving Qatar SC

Tau recently parted ways with his new side Qatar SC, this after a very short stint with the Qatari side. After only joining from Al Ahly in January, The South African international played just 10 times for the club, in an injury ravaged spell. He failed to find the back of the net during his time there, but was able to register four assists in the process.

Before signing for Qatar, there had been rumours of interesting in Iran, North Africa as well as South Africa. On home soil it has been Chiefs who have prominently been linked with the player over the years. During the previous close season, it was claimed that Amakhosi had made inquiries and even bids for Tau, but could not meet Al Ahly’s valuation.

With Tau being a free agent, that opens up the pool of clubs that can entice him with a deal. It also gives Chiefs an opportunity to speak to the player directly, with only a personal package to worry about. Coach Nasreddine Nabi has recently been doing the rounds trying to attract experienced attackers.

Admits to being a Chiefs fan

Speaking to Robert Marawa on MSW on Wednesday night, Tau admitted that growing up he supported Chiefs. But also stated that doesn’t mean it would be a dream to play for the club.

“In South Africa it was Chiefs” Tau said when asked by Marawa about which team he supported growing up.

Asked if signing for Chiefs would represent a full circle moment for him, Tau said no.

Seems to give Sundowns first preference

“No, If that situation were to happen then I’d have to pay attention to it. It would be a situation where I’ve got no club and Chiefs says to me come. But then there are still other clubs in the PSL, I mean I’ve played for Sundowns so I cannot write them off. It’s a team that I played for and I’ve won and got so much love for the team and the fans. So if Sundowns was not to offer me a contract and Chiefs does does then okay, it’s not my fault. It would be theirs that I’ve went to go join Chiefs.” Said Tau. Watch below:

Should either take a chance on him?
