WATCH: Police investigate brazen traffic robbery caught on camera

Police in the North West are appealing for assistance in an ongoing investigation into an armed robbery at the intersection of Bray Road and Unit 13, Mahikeng.

A video of the incident, circulating on social media, shows two men holding a white Toyota Fortuner driver at gunpoint.

The robbery took place on the afternoon of Thursday, 21 August, during which a substantial amount of cash was stolen.

CALLS FOR WITNESSES

Acting North West police commissioner, Major-General Patrick Asaneng, condemned the crime and urged witnesses to come forward. He said the incident, which was recorded and widely shared, must have been seen by members of the public.

“Please assist the police and do not allow these dangerous rascals to escape arrest. Keeping quiet will only benefit and embolden armed criminals, who must be stopped before they injure or kill innocent people,” said Asaneng.

HOW TO REPORT THE ROBBERY

Meanwhile, Asaneng added that the robbery was likely premeditated, as the suspects appeared to know what they were targeting. He assured the public that all information would be treated confidentially.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lieutenant Colonel Ompolokile Letebele on 082 416 3749 or Detective Sergeant Pitso Kgetsana on 079 897 1858. Alternatively, call SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit anonymous tip-offs via the MySAPS App.
