United States President Donald Trump released a video statement following the fatal shooting of political activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk.
The 31-year-old was shot and killed while addressing thousands at an event at Utah Valley University.
Trump expressed grief and anger over the killing, saying it was the result of “demonising” those with opposing views.
TRUMP SAYS KIRK IS A MARTYR
In his video message, the US president described Kirk as a patriot who inspired millions through his fight for liberty, democracy, justice, and the American people.
“He’s a martyr for truth and freedom, and there’s never been anyone so respected by youth. Charlie was also a man of deep, deep faith, and we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace with God in heaven,” Trump said.

Trump added that Kirk’s mission was to bring young people into the political process by sharing his love for his country and spreading what he called the “simple words of common sense.” He blamed the killing on radical left-wing politics.
“For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism we’re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now,” the president said.
Trump also vowed to bring those responsible for the killing and other acts of political violence to justice. He urged Americans to uphold the “values” that Kirk lived and died for, adding that Kirk’s voice and mission would not be silenced.
MANHUNT CONTINUES
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the shooter allegedly fired a single shot from a nearby rooftop. Officials described the incident as a targeted attack, and a manhunt remains underway.
Two individuals initially considered suspects have since been released.
Kirk was shot while answering a question from an audience member about mass shootings. In the wake of his death, Trump ordered that the US flag be flown at half-mast.
