Heavy rain and cold weather conditions are expected in Gauteng on Thursday as a cold front moves across much of the country, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
This cold snap will bring freezing temperatures starting Tuesday and continuing through the end of the week.
These conditions may represent winter’s last cold spell before the transition to spring. Gauteng is preparing for a significant drop in temperatures from Thursday into the weekend.
Cold front approaching Gauteng, says weather service
Forecasts indicate that Johannesburg could reach a low of 5°C on Thursday, with daytime highs only reaching 12°C. In Pretoria, temperatures are expected to drop to 7°C, with a high of 14°C.
Scattered rainfall is expected in Gauteng on Thursday throughout the day. Additionally, daytime temperatures across most parts of the country are projected to decrease significantly beginning Wednesday, with a gradual recovery expected from Saturday onward.
The South African Weather Service will continue to monitor further developments related to the weather systems and will provide updates regarding the cold front.
Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, especially during rain or snow, and to ensure proper ventilation when using fuel-based heating to prevent the buildup of carbon monoxide.
