Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi said KwaZulu-Natal coastal areas could experience strong winds and rough sea conditions on Friday.
“We are expecting wind speeds of up to 55 kilometres per hour along the coast,” he said.
“Gusts may reach around 65 kilometres per hour, especially between Durban and Richards Bay.”
The South African Weather Service has issued a level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves along the coastline.
Rain expected in several KwaZulu-Natal areas
Scattered showers are expected across much of KwaZulu-Natal, while inland areas, such as Pietermaritzburg and its surrounding towns, could see a 60% chance of rain.
Rasimphi added that conditions will remain cloudy throughout the day, with temperatures staying mild. “It will be a mostly cloudy day with on-and-off showers,” he said.
Cooler day across the province
Temperatures are expected to range from 14°C to 24°C along the coast and slightly cooler inland. Rasimphi urged residents to remain cautious during the windy conditions.
“People near the coast should take care, especially with strong winds and rough seas expected,” he said.
