A whole leg of Prosciutto di Carpegna weighing 8 kg will cost you a measly R9,999 at Woolies. So what are you getting for your money? Well, a highly desirable cured meat, coated with a secret blend of lard and spices, which has been aged for 20 months. In the box, there’s also a wooden base, a wooden arm, a metal ring, among other tools, as well as a ham-slicing knife and a delectable, ready-to-eat, premium pork product. ‘DOP’ is included in the product description, meaning Denominazione d’Origine Protetta, a label that guarantees the cheese, prosciutto, or olive oil has been produced, processed, and packaged in a specific geographical zone and according to tradition. In other words, you know they’re good.
One user review on the Woolies product page reads as follows:
‘I had to buy an extra fridge to store it, but my doggos just love it as a special treat. Sooo delicious.’
We wonder if that’s a real review or pure trolling.
