Would you pay R4 000 to watch the Springboks vs All Blacks?

Only a limited number of tickets remain available for the second Test of the Greatest Rivalry series between South Africa and New Zealand, set to take place at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, 29 August.

General ticket sales opened on Monday following a pre-sale period for registered buyers last week, with demand strongest for the Cape Town Test.

The remaining tickets are priced between R1 650 and R4 000, after the more affordable R850 seats sold out quickly.

Rapid sell-out

Cape Town Stadium is the smallest of the three South African venues hosting Tests in the four-match series, which has contributed to the rapid sell-out of lower-priced tickets.

The venue has recently faced scrutiny over high ticket prices for international fixtures, as well as a previously controversial lottery-based sales system.

Despite this, interest in the clash against the All Blacks has remained high, underscoring the enduring appeal of one of world rugby’s most iconic rivalries.

Large capacity

At Ellis Park, which hosts the opening Test on Saturday, 22 August, a small number of R850 tickets were still available at the time of reporting, with most remaining seats priced at R1 650 and R2 850.

Ticket sales for the third Test at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, 5 September have been more measured, which organisers attribute to the venue’s large capacity of 94 700.

All ticket categories remain on sale there, with prices ranging from R400 to R4 000.

The four-Test series between the Springboks and the All Blacks is expected to be one of the major highlights of the international rugby calendar, with demand likely to increase as match days approach.
