Zimbabwean police blocked the planned ‘Million Man March’ organised by Blessed Geza.
The march was allegedly intended to disrupt the Zanu PF conference.
The war veteran Geza had called on Zimbabweans to participate in the Million Man March on 17 October.
Despite the attempt to mobilise protests, the country remained calm, with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirming that peace and order prevailed nationwide.
Zanu PF Conference takes place despite Million Man March
As security forces maintained tight control, President Emmerson Mnangagwa proceeded with his schedule.
He officially opened the Zanu PF 22nd National People’s Conference at Mutare Polytechnic College.
The event drew thousands of delegates, including senior officials, provincial leaders, and party members.
This marked a key moment on the ruling party’s political calendar to discuss national and organisational priorities.
Police assure citizens of heightened security
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi assured citizens and visitors that comprehensive security measures were in place to maintain peace and order.
He said the measures would cover the period before, during, and after the planned Million Man March.
“The commissioner-general of police (Stephen Mutamba) has deployed officers nationwide to protect the public and key infrastructure in all the provinces,” he said.
Essential services remain uninterrupted despite Million Man March
The police urged Zimbabweans to go about their daily activities without fear, emphasising that all essential services, including schools, businesses, public transport, and government offices, would continue operating as normal.
“Members of the public are implored to go about their daily activities without fear,” the statement said. “All essential services, including schools, businesses, public transport, and government institutions, will continue to operate as usual.”
The ZRP warned citizens not to spread misinformation or incite violence on social media, vowing to deal with any unlawful demonstrations or gatherings with the full force of the law
